Ludhiana-An Incredible Knitwear City

City of Ludhiana is known for knitwear production. So often this city is called as 'Manchester of India'. Starting its first hosiery unit in the beginning of 20th century, the city now boasts of housing more than 10,000 small to medium size knitwear factories. Other than these, there are at least 150 big integrated units for the manufacturing of cotton knitted fabrics and garments with state-of-the-art machinery. One third of the 2 million population of the city is engaged in the knitwear business, directly and indirectly. The other occupations of the city are agriculture, manufacturing cycles and parts, machine building and tools.
